Matthias Nagel

Born in 1958, Matthias Nagel studied church music in Herford and Essen. He worked as a church musician in Düsseldorf from 1984 to 2003. During the same period, he taught organ improvisation in Essen and Düsseldorf. He also worked as a guest lecturer for church popular music at various universities. He then worked as a church musician at the Protestant Church of Westphalia’s Centre for Worship and Church Music. Since 2009, he has been the regional trombone director and church music director of the Protestant Church in the Rhineland. Matthias Nagel is a lecturer in church popular music at the University of Church Music in Herford and the Protestant Pop Academy in Witten.
As a pianist, band leader and arranger, Matthias Nagel is involved in a large number of major events, church congresses, church services, radio programmes and studio recordings. He also writes gospel and spiritual arrangements as well as free compositions for various ensembles, including an oratorio about Dietrich Bonhoeffer and his own series “Special Pipes” and “Read & Play” with groovy organ music.

His arrangements of the chorales “Tut mir auf die schöne Pforte” and the bestseller “Verleih uns Frieden gnädiglich” are published by ZebeMusic.
