You’ll find all of this in “My Fortress”! Christoph Schoepsdau never ceases to surprise with his ideas. His setting of the 31st and 91st Psalms is full of jazz harmonies and funk rhythms and one is immediately reminded of the music of Herbie Hancock or Singers Unlimited. Accompanied by piano or a whole rhythm section, the choir manages with three voices: Soprano, alto and baritone. In three movements (Those Who Dwell – Lord, In You I Trust – My Life Is In Your Hands), Schoepsdau describes his interpretations of the themes of refuge, protection and security. “For he has given his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways” takes on a whole new perspective in its musical interpretation. The parts can also be performed individually or ideally complement the Jazz Mass by Christoph Schoepsdau.
